About Cotton University
Cotton University, formerly known as Cotton College, is a public state university in Guwahati, Assam, India. Established in 2017, it merged Cotton College State University and Cotton College. As of 2024, it is ranked 373rd in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), compared to Gauhati University’s 40th position. Cotton College was a constituent of Gauhati University in 1948 and later of Cotton College State University in 2011, established by the Assam Government. The Cotton University Act, 2017, was enacted to resolve issues between the college and the university. Established in 1901 by Sir Henry Stedman Cotton, Cotton College was the oldest institute of higher education in Assam.
